Dental Implants

Dental implants are becoming the standard of care for replacing missing teeth.

What Are Dental Implants?

Dental implants are becoming the standard of care for replacing missing teeth. They have two parts. A root form is surgically placed in the jaw. This takes the place of the tooth root. After the bone has healed, a crown is placed over the root form.

The end result is very much like a natural tooth, except that all the parts are artificial.

Single Tooth Replacement with Dental Implants

They are an excellent way to replace a single missing tooth. If you are missing one tooth, you can have either a dental implant or a dental bridge. To read more about the pros and cons of each choice, you may want to visit our implant vs bridge page.

Dr. Bruce is among the leading restorative dentists restoring dental implants in the Chicago area, based on the number of restorations he places. You can have full confidence in our office that you are receiving the best of care.

Implant-Supported Dentures

Dental implants are particularly helpful when patients are missing all of their natural teeth. Many people with no teeth simply get removable dentures. In years past, this was the only option. The main problem with removable dentures is that, with no teeth present, the bone begins to shrink.

After ten or twenty years, the patient becomes a victim of facial collapse. Because of the missing jawbone, the face looks sunken in. Worse yet, there is little bone left to properly support the denture. If they try to use dentures, they will slip around and fall out at embarrassing times.

They can’t eat properly, and their health begins a slow deterioration. With dental implants, however, these problems are all prevented. The teeth are securely anchored, normal chewing is possible, and there is no facial collapse. Click the link to read more about facial collapse.
